Welcome to KEMS
Who we are
We’re a friendly society comprising three sections: a large mixed-voice Choir, an Orchestra and a newly formed Concert Band. Its members, who cover a wide age range, have one thing in common: they take making music very seriously, always striving for the best possible performances. The Society celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2006-7 with a performance of Verdi's Requiem at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester; click on the picture (left) to listen to an extract.
Standard Season
The standard annual subscription covers the cost of joining the Choir, Orchestra or Concert Band. There are over 30 two-hour rehearsals each season led by our professional musical directors, and the subscription covers the cost of all music hire and costs associated with mounting concerts.
Optional extras
In addition to our standard season we organise a number of optional extra events and performing opportunities (some of which incur an additional charge) including a day-long workshop, a programme of summer chamber music groups, chamber music workshop days and performances at local events such as the Buxton Festival Fringe.
Social programme
We have after-rehearsal pub gatherings each week; a Christmas meal out; a whole Society Ceilidh; and a range of other informal social activities.
