Social

Some people join a society like KEMS to play or sing, develop their technique and have a chance to experience new music and old favourites. KEMS is a great society to allow you to do just that. The beauty of KEMS is that you can do all these things, in great company.

Our youngest members tend to be in their late teens /early twenties, while our more experienced members have been with us for decades!

An ordinary rehearsal will be full of cheery greetings and news, as all members are extremely sociable. New members are made to feel welcome and usually feel that they 'belong' fairly quickly.

Once the rehearsals are over,  there is still a good ninety minutes of drinking time available for choir and orchestra members who meet in a local pub. All are welcome, if you can cope with the witty repartee from the locals: 'ooh – play us a tune' or 'do you play the song they use for football?'
Concerts are another time when we go out to celebrate our successes and drink away the adrenalin/exhaustion. We usually go to the Castle on Church Street, Macclesfield, where we are made to feel extremely welcome, take over one of the little rooms and sing (shout) our way through the evening ’s programme.

In addition, there are social occasions and special events  throughout the year. A very successful Quiz Night wwas held in April 2010. There have been evenings with Tim and Jenny Kendal, Pizza Express is fast becoming a popular and lively choice for the orchestral Christmas meal, and the Summer Chamber music has developed wonderful new friendships.

We look forward to many more things to celebrate together in the future.
